What is Overtime?

Overtime refers to any hours worked by an employee that exceed their normally scheduled working hours. While generalized overtime simply to those hours worked outside of the standard working schedule, overtime commonly refers concurrently to the employee’s remunerations of such work. The overtime rate of pay varies between companies and by specifics of the overtime, such as the number of overtime hours worked. 


It is no secret that we, as humans, make mistakes. When you’re calculating overtime manually there is a large margin for errors. Depending on your chosen method of overtime, it can be difficult to read the punches, whether they are printed by hand or by machine. With the help of overtime feature, HR calculates the extra hour worked after the work timings every day. However, to ensure fair and equitable payments, the HR uses the Overtime App to keep an accurate track of overtime.

Use case :-

Suppose a company name with Abhishek Industries Private Limited. In this company, there are 500+ workers. when HR was using the manual methods for overtime calculation they face many problems such as miss-matching in attendance. In this case, HR can use an overtime app. Due to this app overtime automatically calculate based on raw data of attendance which is in the system.

For Example :- Abhi works for a manufacturing plant. He is working 2 or 3 hours extra every day in the month. Based on his In/Out punch system automatically calculate his overtime without any manual calculation.

How to Activate Overtime App :- Following Below steps to activate overtime app :-

1. Enrollment > Unsubscribe apps

2. Unsubscribe apps > Overtime

3. Overtime > Subscribe

4. Refresh the page

5. Enrollment > Overtime app

6. Activate the overtime setting

  • If User need to change the calculating hours for overtime then we have a option "Custom Over Time Calculation". With the help of this setting user change the over time calculation hours shift wise accordingly. Follow below steps to activate the Custom over time calculation setting :-

1. Shift > Shift

2. Click on Custom over time calculation.

  • After activation this setting user need to set it Shift wise.Follow below steps for the same :-

a) Shift > Shift Creation

b) Shift creation > Edit

c) Select Shift ID

c) Add Overtime hours

d) Click on Save & continue

3. User can view over time from over time report and also download excel.
